Study of Pharmakokinetics of EnergoIod Preparation
Determination of period of elimination of the studied preparation’s remainder from organism.
Elimination period was determined by changes in iodine concentration in cows’ blood, urine and milk after oral and intravenous administration.
Therapeutic concentration of iodine in blood is maintained during quite long time period - 36-40 hours.
Process of elimination of iodine from organism is accelerated by the end of the second day; concentration in blood is normalized in two days.
Thus the preparation is eliminated from organism completely in two days. Biochemical and morphological characteristics of blood and bone marrow are normalized in this period.
Determination of the studied preparation’s effect on thyroid gland.
It is known that iodine is contained in thyroid hormones produced by thyroid gland: tetraiodthyronine and triiodothyronine. Biological action of thyroid hormones affects numerous physiological functions of organism. In particular they regulate basal metabolic rate, growth and differentiation of tissues, exchange of proteins, carbonhydrates and lipids, water-electrolytic exchange, functions of central nervous system, demand for vitamins, organism’s ability to resist infections etc.
Inefficiency of thyroid gland (hypofunction) as well as increased release of hormones (hyperfunction) cause severe disturbance of physiological state of human organism.
Hypofunction of thyroid gland in infancy causes disease called cretinism, in mature age - myxedema; ; hyperfunction of thyroid gland causes hyperthyroidism (Basedow’s disease) which can be treated by administration of micro doses of iodine inhibiting functions of thyroid gland. Another disease of thyroid gland should be noted as well - endemic goiter. This disease affects people in the areas with insufficient iodine content in soil, water and plants. Treatment in this case consists in enrichment of food products with iodine. In this connection an important additional property of the preparation is its ability to prevent iodine deficiency.
The following was established in studies of effect on functions of thyroid gland: after oral administration of the preparation in the whole observation period no atrophies or swelling of thyroid gland were observed in animals. Thyroid gland was not felt upon palpation.
Upon external examination no any symptoms of hypothyroidism or thyrotoxicosis were found (changed heart rate, appetite disorders, disturbed neurological status, tendon reflexes, hyperkinetic disorder in digestive tract etc.). Upon autopsy of animals thyroid gland was unchanged. Content of iodine bound with proteins in blood serum was indicative of normal functions of thyroid gland, it varied within normal range and was equal to 40-80 mkg of protein-bound iodine after oral administration of the studied preparation and during the whole observation period.
