Action spectrum » Antiviral Effect
Direct antiviral effect of EnergoIod preparation implies direct disturbance of one or several basic stages of viral life cycle by the preparation: nonspecific binding with virions outside cells, disturbance of sorption of viruses to cells (blockade of cell receptors on membranes), disturbance of replication and assembly of viral particles inside cells, blockade of way out of cells for virions.
EnergoIod shows high antiviral activity. Diapason of destroyed viruses ranges from those causing usual cold to those responsible for very serious diseases (in practical use it was proven that this preparation effectively suppresses, destroys and inhibits growth of such extremely dangerous viruses as virus of herpes I and II type, virus of vesicular stomatitis and myeloblastosis).
EnergoIod suppresses activity of viral enzymes. After suppression of viral enzymes viruses can not be reproduced and can not infect other cells (by the way, such suppression of enzyme activity is a distinguishing feature of substances suppressing activity of Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegaloviral infection and AIDS). Enzyms play the key role in retroviral activity. These viruses (also called as ribo-deoxy viruses or oncogenic viruses) cause severe cancerous diseases.
In experimental studies we established the preparation’s ability to inhibit replication of a range of DNA and RNA containing viruses playing an important role in pathogenesis of various diseases.
The preparation’s activity against DNA and RNA containing viruses is indicative of its ability to disturb one or several stages of these viruses’ life cycle.
Obtained data show that EnergoIod preparation is able to affect comprehensively viral infections at the level of whole organism - through modulation of immunity and on the level of viruses’ interaction with target cells - through binding viruses outside of cells preventing their sorption to cell receptors and stimulation of synthesis of interferon inside cells.
It is quite possible that cumulative effect of the components of EnergoIod disturbs assembly of virions at the stage of glycosylation of viral proteins inside cells. Depending on particular viral infection this preparation can act differently: in case of infections caused by non-enveloped viruses - as the optimal immunomodulator, in case of infection with enveloped viruses - in two ways: as immunomodulator and preparation with direct antiviral effect.
These two mechanisms of antiviral activity of the concentrate allow to resist viral infections of different nature. Further experimental and clinical studies will determine which mechanism is predominant.
